In mid-2004 the need to create a new broadly based Ontario Cheese Society was determined by a group of highly dedicated artisan cheesemakers, milk producers, retailers and enthusiasts who experience first hand the fast-growing consumer interest in farmstead, artisan and regional cheese products across North America.
The Ontario Cheese Society's roles are:
- Facilitating opportunities for networking, professional development and idea exchange between members of the community
- Advocating the importance and value of the farmstead, artisan, regional and specialty cheese community to policy makers and the broader community.
- Educating, researching and informing members on developments, emerging trends, and innovations.
- Promoting Ontario Artisan, Farmstead and Regional Cheese to wholesalers, distributors, retailers, and consumers as well as export markets.
