For the third year in a row, Society members staffed a booth at this high-profile fundraising event for Toronto's Second Harvest organization. Fuelled by their enthusiasm for O.C.S. cheese, Gurth Pretty, one of our board members and author of The Definitive Guide to Canadian Artisanal & Fine Cheese, with Andy Shay of Shay Cheese, Debbie Levy and Angela Marsillo, provided cheese samples to the 1,300 participants. Featured cheese included: Piacere (Monforte Dairy), 3 Year-Old Cheddar (Jensen Cheese), Aged Gouda (Thunder Oak Dairy), Aged Goat Cheddar (Mornington Heritage Cheese and Dairy Co-operative), Niagara Gold and Comfort Cream (Upper Canada Cheese Co.) The cheese was served on delicious bread provided generously by ACE Bakery.
Toronto Taste is a great event to promote Ontario cheese and the Society to the city's foodie culture, as well as to 50 other participating chefs. Proceeds of the evening supports Second Harvest's programs. The organization coordinates the pick-up of excess fresh food and delivers it to Toronto social service agencies. Every dollar donated provides food for 3 nutritious meals a day.
